Reasons

So, what made me start this blog?

Well, I'd been thinking about it for a while, and then last week there was a news item (on BBC online I think) about Microsoft entering the blogging world with a new product and I suppose that I got annoyed. Why on earth do they feel the need to try to dominate absolutely everything computer related? I wished they could just be nice occasionally and leave some things for other people to do. So, I decided to have a quick look around at what other methods were already available, found http://www.blogger.com and promptly signed up for a new account. I accepted most of the default options, and http://richardwarren.blogspot.com was born.

I guess it was a good time to do it really. Sharon and I are currently expecting our first baby and I thought that it might be a useful way of recording events. I've had a very basic personal website of my own for years and hardly ever get time to update it so reckoned that a blog might be easier so I'd be more likely to add things to it. (The website is extremely basic actually, considering I make a living from writing software, but that's mainly embedded systems for radar processing, plot extraction and target tracking, not net stuff. You can find it at http://www.rew.org.uk if you're interested.)

Anyway, that's what finally spurred me into action. I shall try to keep this up to date, but we'll have to see. Everyone keeps telling me I'll have no spare time when the baby arrives, but then I never really did anyway!

Cheerio for now.
